What is ADSL and DSL?

ADSL is an acronym for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line. DSL is the same thing as ADSL, just easier to say. DSL is a technology that allows information to be transmitted on a telephone line at very high speeds.

Will I ever get a busy signal when I want to use the Internet?

No. Unlike dial-up connections, WebArmour DSL is an "always-on" internet connection and you don't actually phone any number before each time you want to use it.

If I'm on the Internet, will my phone ring busy when others are trying to call me?

No. DSL Internet shares your telephone line without interrupting regular phone service. You will be able to use the internet and talk on the phone at the same time.

Will I need a special phone line for this?

No. WebArmour DSL uses your regular phone line.

Do I need to have a Telus phone line?

No. WebArmour DSL is now available on lines from most telephone companies.

Can I use my cell phone?

No. WebArmour DSL requires a "land-line" phone line.

Do I need extra equipment?

DSL internet requires a DSL modem. This is not the same type of modem used for dial-up internet or for Shaw Cable Internet. A DSL modem is available at an additional charge. Or, you may be able to use an existing DSL modem if it is compatible with our service. If you wish to use an existing modem, please ask one of our service technician to ensure compatibility.
